Lightweight laptop computer with power supply, strong case, and all necessary software installed. Computer should have a wireless modem, Ethernet port, and dial-up port for maximum flexibility.
A small, travel USB mouse such as the Targus PAUM01U Ultra Mini Retractable Optical Mouse.
International Power Conversion Plugs. You don’t need all of them and you really can buy most of them for any particular country once you get to that country but it can take some hunting around.
USB headset for Skype calls.
USB Flash Removable Drive such as 2 Pack of TravelDrive™ USB Flash Drive. You can store some files and passwords on this and encrypt them. These can also beat keyloggers on public computers if you just copy and paste the password from your drive into the login fields.
Digital camera with a few memory cards.
An iPod or other digital media device with headphones. Can also double as an external hard drive.
A GSM Phone with SIM card from Telestial.
An international phone card with rechargeable minutes from Telestial.
Any software you might want. Some useful software for traveling is National Geographic Maps: Special Edition, The World Guide 11th edition CD-ROM: Global reference - country by country, and Rosetta Stone Language Software .
