Book A Flight
Travelers put a lot of energy into finding the best deals on air tickets. Because a plane ticket is often the largest single expense on your trip and requires an initial outlay of cash before you go, it’s wise to put a fair amount of thought into finding the best deal you can.
Airfares have a mysterious quality about them. The goal of the airlines is quite simple: to try to get you to pay as much as they can for a seat. Remember, many airline companies have ongoing financial problems so they have a vested interest in getting as much as they can for every seat.
The quest for the absolute "best" airfare can be a time-consuming exercise in disappointment. There is no one proven method to ensure that the ticket you buy will be the absolute best deal for the money. However, there are some important issues to keep in mind.
Booking Flights Online Versus Using Travel Agents
Many people assume that booking on the internet is always less expensive than using a travel agent. This is not always true. Online booking does have some major advantages. For one, there are certain discounts through the airlines themselves or through one of the big online travel portals that happen periodically.
Both the airlines and the portals use the online-only discounts as a way of luring customers to their sites and hopefully turn them in to repeat customers. The airlines will also sometimes offer incentives such as bonus frequent flyer miles as an inducement to buy from them online. However, it is incorrect to assume that buying directly from the airlines is always cheaper than going through a portal or travel agent. In fact, it can cost an airline more money to issue the ticket itself than to outsource ticketing to a travel agent.
